Text Box: The Song of David is written immediately after his deliverance from Saul who was seeking his life. In Verse 3 David refers to God as his rock and his fortress. During his hiding from Saul David hid in the caves and crevices around Ein Gedi and the west bank of the Dead Sea. He knew what protection and strength their was in these places.
Those who have visited this area know that the area is dessert and barren with hardly anything to sustain you except at the wadis and natural springs, of which there are few. This area makes one realize that it is only G-d who provides for your needs and protection from the elements or, in David’s case, a pursuer.
This is true in our lives also. While we think we are in charge and it is our doing that we are protected and well fed, it is really G-d who supplies our every need. Let us not forget that in our times of ease that it is G-d who takes care of us at all times.
