Rebekah as an image of the Bride of Messiah |
|
Rebekah is the perfect image of the bride of Messiah.
When she was asked for a little, a simple drink of water for the servant, she gave a lot without complaint. She went on to water ten camels until they were done drinking! Camels drink up to 50 gallons of water in a few hours when they have gone just five to seven days without. Can you imagine willingly drawing up to 500 gallons of water for someone you have never met before?!?
When her family asked her to stay with them for just 10 more days she declined. She sensed the urgency of the situation, and although she had never met her future husband, she was excited to meet him. She let nothing hold her back, even to the point of leaving everything and everyone she knew.
When she approached Isaac, she covered her head out of respect and reverence. Upon physically meeting the man with whom she would spend the rest of her life, she was probably extremely nervous, yet she still desired to submit herself to his guidance and will as symbolized by her covering her head upon seeing him and yet having had her head uncovered while travelling from her home to Abraham’s tents.
We, as the bride of Messiah, need to be like Rebekah. We should give more than we are asked for, we should be willing to leave all we know at a moment’s notice, and we should submit ourselves to the authority of the Messiah, even though we have not met him face-to-face yet.
