Isaiah 11:6

2 Thessalonians 2:15

I Hate Monday

“And G-d said: ‘Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.’ And G-d made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament; and it was so. And G-d called the firmament Heaven. And there was evening and morning, a second day” (Genesis 1:6-8).

So G-d called the firmament Heaven right? Knowing this, how do these verses read? “And G-d said: ‘Let there be Heaven in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.’ And G-d made the Heaven, and divided the waters which were under the Heaven from the waters which were above the Heaven; and it was so.”

Isaiah 63:15 and Psalms 33:13 both point to heaven being the dwelling place of G-d. Many scholars will try to claim that the heaven mentioned in Genesis is different from the heaven mentioned in Isaiah and Psalms; that it is impossible that G-d lives in the place where we keep shooting rockets. People who try to underplay the meaning of השמים (hashamayim) in Hebrew, need only to look at Psalms 33:13 in Hebrew. " ”השמים בית יהוהdirectly translated this means “Heaven, house of G-d.”

There is no separate word for sky or universe in Hebrew. It is the same word as Heaven. Yet when we look in the Hebrew, the word used in all cases is שמים (shamayim). G-d created שמים to separate the waters below it and above it and שמים is where G-d dwells.

So wait, there’s water beyond Heaven?!? Sounds a bit unbelievable doesn’t it? Revelation 4:6 states, “And before the throne there was a sea of glass like unto crystal; and in the midst of the throne, and round about the throne, were four beasts full of eyes before and behind.” A sea of glass like crystal…you know, pure, unpolluted water would probably look a lot like crystal.

G-d separated the waters on day two of creation. Day two is also the only day upon which G-d did not call what He did good. Does this mean that G-d created something imperfect? No! G-d made everything according to His design. So why did G-d not call the second day good? Why doesn’t G-d like Mondays?

G-d, in His omniscience, knew that He would have to separate himself from man and that He would have to flood the earth destroying almost all of His beloved creation. Creating an expanse to distance Himself from man and knowing that the waters below Heaven would be used to flood the Earth could not be a happy day. G-d did not call the creation of Heaven good or separating the waters “good” because He was heartbroken. The last thing He wanted was to have to separate Himself from us. Even less than that did G-d want to destroy almost all of His creation.

So next time you say you hate Mondays and someone says you’re all wet, just say, “Hey, I’m in great company!”

Selah.
